Since the weekend looms near, you better begin locating your matches. There is nothing I love more than curling up in my bed, hot cocoa in hand, Gossip Girl rolling, and, most important, candles flickering.
There's something about candles that reminds us of winter and warms up a space. Perhaps it's the resemblance to a crackling fire or a symbol of warmth. Whatever it is, playful and civilized pyrotechnics alike will be burning away wax, fragrance, and matches this winter. But, here are my picks.
Five words. The Malin + Goetz Dark Rum Candle. The warmest burn (sniff-wise) with notes of bergamot, plum, rum, leather, amber-patchouli, and vanilla. At first whiff, it's sucre-esque scent of fruity plum reveal way for the creamy mix of vanilla and milk. Alas, at it's base, the deep notes of rum and leather heat up the air--in the fashion of a nicely-scented boy.
On the floral front, the Voluspa Mokara Candle reigns. I know what you're thinking--a floral for winter? But, hear me out. The aroma of mokara orchid (thus, the name), white lily, and spring moss may resemble that of a budding spring, but doesn't fail to smell fresh in a chic way, nearly crafted for a lazy sunday compliment.
Concurring with the fresh notes, there's the Good Nature Balsam and Cedar Soy Wax Candle. The most seasonal of the bunch, it combines the glow of eucalyptus and oak moss, the warmth of cinnamon, and the coziness associated with fresh balsam--the scent lingering upon your Christmas tree.
Then, there's the cozy, warm, and fresh hybrid--the Capri Blue Hibiscus Teakwood Candle. The sweetest of the lot, don't fret because it's not too overpowering and still remains subtle. A fresh whiff is delivered from hibiscus and tobacco blossom, sandalwood, and teak, and a hit of warmth from vetiver, sultry ginger, and spicy amber. Ahhhh.
Oui, I'm aware that all of these candles are breathtaking and utterly compliment cold mornings and cozy evenings--both under my duvet. But the best part? They're all brother-approved.
