When I reminisce about this past year on 'Parisian To Be,' my heart can't help but beat a little faster. Without getting too emotional, this blog has grown so much over the past three hundred and sixty five days, it nearly stuns me when I begin to envision what the new year has to hold--but we're not quite there yet.
I'm hitting you with my 'Best of 2013' favorites, a topic I've been mulling and anticipating since January first. I've spent
BEST PRIMER. I wasn't quite a primer obsessive until the second half of the year when I discovered the Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer*. In truth, I only began to get tactile with it in September, but I've used it every. day. since; hell, I've even compared it to other primers, but it still reigns on top.
BEST BASE. Out of every tinted moisturizer, alphabet cream, and skin-covering tube or pot sitting in my makeup stash, I've adored the Dr. Jart Waterfuse BB Cream the most out of anything else. It boasts a light coverage, but with massive imperfection covering powers without it looking too heavy. Dreamy--that's all.
BEST CONCEALER. I only revealed my love for the MAKE UP FOR EVER Full Cover Concealer recently, but it's without a doubt the most loved. It's waterproof formula certainly doesn't replication a false-advertising hoax, but, above all else, it covers like no other, has wicked staying power, and (with careful application) never looks too heavy on the skin.
BEST POWDER. Just like my primer tale, I never really used powder before this year--or until I discovered this wonder: the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light. I loved my dewy and radiant ways, but didn't like my oily sheen; well, this fixes all that. It blurs imperfections, enhances the radiance, yet yields off oil throughout the day.
BEST BRONZER/CONTOUR. This is where things get tricky; I've got one love for each category. Equal parts of my heart go to both NARS Laguna and the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder, but if the 'hitting pan' signal speaks for my love for one more than the other, then you should add the NARS Laguna Bronzer to your shopping lists...now.
BEST BLUSH. I've exponentially increased my flush-enhancing stash this year (they are my favorite things to buy), but I've been sweeping the Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Peach Whisper on my apples more than any other formula. The über peachy tint--as the name suggests--doesn't hit the 'whoa' factor for naturally flush-happy gals, already, but adds a hint of something to add life to the face.
BEST HIGHLIGHTER. Unfortunately, my favorite this year has been the Jemma Kidd Dewy Glow in Rose Gold, but I thought I'd spare you the tears of its discontinued ways and name the RMS Living Luminizer as the title. I know, I know--I've just started to delve into the thing, but the white and subtle sheen strikes my complexion in the most flattering of ways and the formula is free of nasties (this, that, and the other thing). It's. gorgeous.
BEST EYESHADOW. I've just gotten into my eye-shaded ways, but the majority of the year was spent sweeping the Wet 'n Wild Comfort Zone Palette onto my peepers; and the rosey hue on the left is by far the most stunning.
BEST EYELINER. As opposed to the usual smokey liner ways, I discovered the allure of the outer-half lash line smudge and it's added definition to my already quite elongated eyes. And the product that takes all the credit? The Rimmel ScandalEyes Liner in Brown--a natural, 'not too harsh' shade (that even has a hint of bronze shimmer thrown in).
BEST MASCARA. I'm not particularly finicky when it comes to mascara, but my favorite is the Maybelline Full 'N Soft Waterproof number. It holds a curl, adds the perfect combination of volume and length, and never fails to look absolutely smashing.
BEST BROW PRODUCT. The Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette. That's all. It looks amazingly natural and adds some much-enhancing length to those visage caterpillars I always speak of.
BEST LIP BALM. I've deviated from the tub at the moment, but I'm still in love with the Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm. A honey and orange scented, creamy, and moisturizing formula that is thick enough to be felt eight hours later and keeps my lips moisturized 'til evening. And it doesn't hurt that it's French, either.
BEST LIP GLOSS. I'm not a lipstick, lip crayon, or tinted lip balm gal; I only love lip gloss. And my favorite is the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector in Rose Shimmer. With the texture of a balm, a gorgeous sheen, and slight pink and natural tint...can you find something to fault?
BEST TWEEZERS. Forget those cheap Revlon pairs and the budget buys--go big or go home. And when I say big, I'm speaking of price, because the Tweezerman Mini Slanted Tweezers and relatively small considering their powerful and easily plucking ways.
BEST BRUSH. I rarely speak of makeup brushes on here, but I'm not quite happy with my standings at the moment--but I'll give you a shout once I am. As I examine my stocks and ponder my favorite brush e v e r, there's no doubt that it's the Real Techniques Buffing Brush. Unfortunately, to get these bristles and this handle, you'll have to buy the whole set, but the rest of it is equally amazing. Nevertheless, the synthetic and dense bristles blend any base effortlessly and gives you the appearance of an air-brushed and perfected complexion.
BEST LASH CURLERS. The same story remains for these crimpers as the tweezer ballade--splash out on the Shu Uemura Eye Lash Curlers or have non-curled lashes. Granted, these are the only high-end option I've tried, but they smash the drugstore competition. Hello, doe-eyed luxury.
Standby, standby--grab some sustenance, blankets, and hot cocoa, because the 2013 rave train has just begun. Oh; and get those wishlists, too.
